What will it cost?

$250 – This covers your membership in the group for all 8 weeks and the workbook we will be using.

Who can join?

This group is for moms who are on difficult parenting journeys.  Typically, that means women who have children with special needs or trauma histories.  Moms by biology, adoption or marriage are all welcome.  Please email or schedule a free consultation if you are unsure about your specific situation.

Because of licensing laws, only moms in Texas are able to join at this time.

What do I need to participate in online group therapy?

All members must have access to a strong internet connection and a private area to participate in the group. Typically, if you are able to stream Netflix you will be able to participate in online groups.  All sessions are done via video chat.  You can log on from your phone or computer but you are responsible for making sure that no one can see or overhear the group conversation.  Many people find that joining from a bedroom or a car works well.

What are the groups like?

Each week we will meet online for an hour after the kids are in bed.  We’ll do a quick check-in with all of the members then discuss an area of your life where you may be feeling the impact of trauma.  Members will have a chance to share their experiences and we’ll introduce the focus for the next week.  Over the course of the 8 week group, we will look at six different areas of life where trauma may be impacting you.  You will be able to identify the areas where you are struggling while learning new ways to cope and heal.

What if I miss a session?

Please try not to miss because your voice is important to the conversations! Since the groups meet online, you can join from anywhere in the state.  You can still work through the section of the workbook that you missed.  Refunds for missed meetings are not available.

Do I have to share?

You never have to share more of your story than you want to. Every group will include time for members to share their experiences but it is up to you if you want to speak or how much.

What is the difference between this group and a Facebook support group?

Facebook groups can be a lifeline for moms who are struggling.  Finding other parents who are on the same journey helps you not feel so alone and often they give the best advice.  A therapy group is different in that our focus is on your experience and emotions.  We won’t give advice about IEPs, meltdowns or hospital stays.  Instead, you will have a non-judgmental space to work through the struggle.

Who will the group be lead by?

My name is Le Shepard (it’s spelled weird but pronounced like Leigh.) I’m an experienced counselor with advanced training in trauma.  I’m also a mom by birth and adoption to kids with super powers and special needs.  I use a combination of proven therapies and real world experience to meet you where you are and help you find healing.
